It is funny because I spent the first two months playing it to death and also just stopped when I realised nothing was happening. You can only play a number of those maps for so long before you start needing more. The Build and Battle system is incredibly broken too.

You mentioned that the Arrival dlc as unimportant but actually the game starts off following what Shepard did in Arrival. The Mass Relay destroyed the inhabitants of the system and Mass Effect 3 starts off with Shepard facing trial. I guess you just weren't paying attention at the start of the game.
