Agreed, I don’t know how much the reviews mattered (Venom 2 is at 59%, which is higher but not good). The marketing just seemed off, it made the movie seem really flat.

I am confused what convictions you think are at issue here.

Your argument is not stupid at all. You can’t look at some of those seltzer cans and tell me that the majority of the marketing is aimed at the over 21 crowd.

instead we get random power level adjustments to give them a chance to do something (i.e. Captain Marvel be inexplicably weak in End Game, or Captain America being inexplicably stronger over time).]

In fairness, Wright pitched Ant-Man pre-MCU.

Yeah, and honestly the biggest tell is that the stunt is never really discussed after. Obviously it shakes Shiv up but even when other people bring it up she shrugs it off. If it was supposed to be plot relevant, it wouldn’t be treated like that.

Greg was ordered by his superiors to burn evidence. Not only is he a key witness, he has actual paper evidence that the event occurred (even if the papers are actually benign individually).

That’s sort of what I mean. Black Widow got “it’s a Marvel movie, you know the deal” type reviews. I think that the Eternals needs “It’s not just a Marvel movie, it’s a new experience, must see”

I kind of think it’s going to have to fit into the Guardians mode of being raved about with an actually somewhat unique vision in order to make decent money. If it gets Black Widow reviews I think it’s going to bomb.

How is it not a stretch? Because in probably 99.99% of movies if an actor plays the same character in multiple movies, those movies are connected.

a few-million dollars.

I mean, it doesn’t seem like a stretch to at least consider it. Yeah, he was also i the Rami movies but that’s not really the same as two movies coming out within months of each other. At minimum the studios want you to think there’s some sort of connection.

Who says he’d be evil? The Suicide Squad is a band of villains organized by Amanda Waller who doesn’t necessarily like Superman.

If I wanted to know more about lightsabers I would read an article about Star Wars, not an article about physics.

No one here is a young child.

The right attitude if you’re happy not to learn new things about cool stuff.

How is people liking a plot point complaining about it?

From an in-universe logical standpoint, using their best and biggest ship for a lightspeed kamikaze run, it would have made more sense to evacuate one or more of the smaller ships and pilot them remotely.

Eh, I don’t think that would have been earned at all. What up to that point makes us think that Rey is a person with resentment and frustration (and even ambition). I think you can still get your last paragraph without them being on the same side in that moment.

Kylo Ren, wonderfully brought to life by Adam Driver poses the 3rd alternative, rejecting the light and the dark, the First Order, the Resistance but then two seconds later, fails to commit and becomes the new Supreme Leader and is back to business as usual.
