I'm not big into ghost stories, but the story of Delphine LaLaurie is so disturbing I'd be afraid to see a hamfisted fictionalization.

Conceptually I think the parallel between rape and other hate crimes is one of the strongest ways to demonstrate to people that rape IS a hate crime and that it needs to be treated accordingly.
