It doesn’t matter. If it was advertised as a pro and anti-GamerGate panel, GamerGaters were going to send death threats and bomb threats. That’s the entire response. That’s what the group was made for.

As a female “gamer”, yep. Basically at some point in your gaming career, you are going to be targeted specifically for being female (or for being an assumed woman). Especially if you’re into online gaming.

Mercedes is garbage. She’s a close friend of Gavin McInnes’ and is frequently on his show. She parrots what he says and he tolerates her (and wants to fuck her). They’re on the Anthony Cumia Network, so that should tell you something. She’s just their Cool Girl who Hates Other Girls. The usual really.

I’m sure there are at least a few cases of anti-GamerGaters sending death threats, but the “both sides” argument is crap because it ignores the fact that GamerGate was created to harass and threaten, and it serves that purpose very well (unfortunately).

Not really fair to call Harper et al’s panel an “Anti-Gamergate” panel, no reference to GG appeared in the panels name or description and they were trying to move the conversation on harassment in gaming away from the myopic focus on Gamergate.

The one panel wasn’t an Anti-GamerGate panel, it was an anti-harassment panel. There’s a false equivalence here that sxsw wants to make as being “neutral” or “fair”

They sent in death threats to the anti-GamerGate panel and because they cancelled the anti-one, they also cancelled the pro-GamerGate one (because having just a pro-panel would be stupid).

Calling it an ‘anti-Gamergate’ panel is itself very dismissive. It wasn’t even about Gamergate specifically — it was about solving a wider culture of harassment in the online gaming sphere.
