Posting a "Passenger Wanted" ad on craiglist might be construed by the FAA as a commercial endeavour, which is a big no-no for a private pilot. I would need get the commercial pilot's license before I could charge passengers for flights. Still on my way there.

I don't own an airplane since I can't afford one of my own, but the few times I have need for flight, Renting a Cessna and filling it up usually come in at slightly less than typical airfare. Not quite as fast but I do enjoy the freedom of being able to fly myself around.

I'll stick to General Aviation. No TSA hassle, No annoying kids kicking my seat and screaming all flight long, No being ripped off for bringing luggage, No need to make connecting flights.

I've experienced that firsthand during my private pilot training when practicing touch and goes in a Piper Archer. Granted, those were 5-6 knot crosswinds but still makes for quite a hairy landing to the uninitiated.
