Interesting that all of these are multi/cross platform ... except of course for iPhoto.

Doesn’t the solution for Android disable *all* location services? I want location services on for sharing location through Google Plus with a select group. I’m just asking out of curiosity, I stopped using Messenger years ago due to its poor performance and batter consumption.

It now has the added feature of the NSA spell-checking everything for you.

How many people would actually install software from the US government voluntarily these days, considering their behaviour lately?

I think people need to understand the difference between race and culture. There are no bad races. The are most definitely some bad cultural elements, and sadly, these are often reflected as traits of a specific race.

Conversely, I say if a place *only* takes Apple Pay as an NFC payment system, a closed, proprietary payment system on a closed, proprietary platform, I will shop elsewhere.

Android apps all integrate with each other fairly flawlessly. There's no distinction between system and add-on apps. I'm under the impression Apple has 'borrowed' their method of doing this in a recent version , or some of it, but not a lot of apps support it yet.

They support Linux as well. They actually have proper (downloadable) drivers.

I like to remind people, as when people give money to reward Apple's repugnant attempts at platform lock-in, it increases the likelihood of a future where *I* won't have easy access to a device I own. Apple has gone a long way toward making people think that 'borrowing' a device rather than owning it is okay. If it

I buy devices that don't use overpriced proprietary cables to begin with. It seems like a bad idea to reward that kind of behaviour.

To my knowledge, Apple has *never* supported jailbreaking and was actually trying to have it made illegal through the DMCA. I'd be interested in any facts you have to back that claim up. Yes, Apple will let you sideload your own apps if you pay them for the privilege. You will also need a Mac development environment,

These phones are all so good that I'd be perfectly happy with any of them. It's damned nice to have so many choices. It's also nice to see that nothing with Samsung's 'improvements' to the UI made the list. Perhaps more people have discovered how Android is supposed to look and perform.

I know it might sound troll-ish, but if you're giving money to a company and then still fighting with them for control over your own hardware, perhaps you should look at alternatives. If you keep rewarding Apple for their behaviour, they're not going to stop trying to lock you out.

I'll mention again that not only can you go off-contract, but you can go 'data-only' ans switch to VOIP. Here in Canada I think it saves even more money than in the US. A basic normal plan with 100 voice minutes and 500 MB of data is about 60$. A Tablet plan with that much data is about $15, and VOIP calls use very

Alan, you didn't mention using ADB Backup, which is free, works on all platforms, and does not require root (I believe). You do need to enable developer options if I remember correctly.

Or better yet, stop rewarding a company that is restricting you from using a device you *own* the way you want (and fought to have it made illegal as well). I don't care what mobile computing platform you use instead, but Apple should not be rewarded by people who care about open computing.

To mute and set to vibrate, do a quintuple-tap. Apple really needs to break down and add a couple of buttons. This is the same silly stubbornness they had with mouse buttons.

Good for you. Rewarding Apple with your dollars for restricting your access to your own device is a silly thing to do.

Linux has had this functionality for years as well, in EasyStroke.

I'm in Canada and I do exactly the opposite . I have a tablet plan for ny phone (Android) and no voice plan at all. I use VOIP and have as much voice time as I want. I pay my VOIP provider (Fongo) $2 per month for texts, and the rest of the service is free. I even had my old phone number ported over. My data plan
