Out of curiosity, why don't we ever see things like "iOS gets widgets, or replaceable keyboards, or inter-app communications - finally!"?

I'm sure Swype-like typing on iOS will be even great, not that Apple has invented it!
This is also open source, which for me is a *huge* plus when dealing with encryption and privacy related software.
It's not so much digital media even as much as television and print. Both of those general business areas used Apple hardware 'before it was cool' for layout, video and audio editing. Writers used macs. In general, they were the first 'blind fanboys', providing free advertising for products from a company they'd…
According to Apple's lawyers, it's on;y stealing when it's something they patented first. (even when they didn't actually *do it* first).
Some of us are *against* Apple rather than *for* anything else. Against Apple because of their ridiculous attempts at platform lock-in, their outright avoidance of standards, their litigious corporate behaviour. You have no source for software for an iPhone except Apple. Giving money to Apple is funding the loss of…
Or you could have meaningful content, possibly with related images. Just a suggestion.
The problem one for me is frustration, and I really can't see getting cleanly from frustration to desire unless you count the desire to choke people for their stupidity, greed, disinterest, or incompetence. The rest of them I can actually see making the transformation, but not the one that's the most common problem.
If you have an older machine and are thinking of getting something newer, try using a setup like this instead. Likewise if you are thinking of getting a Mac. Get a decent Windows box (or avoid the 'Windows tax') with a nice machine from System76 and install Mint or Ubuntu. If you've already decided you don't need…
I ue an app called Cryptonite (https://play.google.com/store/apps/det…) that allows you to mount EncFS and TrueCrypt volumes on Android. Still Beta, but it seems to work quite nicely. You can create an encrypted filesystem or TrueCrypt in your DropBox directory on your PC for example, and access it on your phone. Very…
The Bag of Holding is half price today ...
The original Bags of Holding had very weak zippers, but I think they've fixed that now. I have one that I purchased ages agfo but only really started using fairly recently, and the main zipper keeps popping open and the zipper pulls broke. I'm somewhat disappointed that they wouldn't fix it (Thinkgeek is normally…
Based on the changes MS made to Skype when they bought it and their cuddly relationship with the NSA, you can be assured that it truly is spyware.
Agreed about third part skins. They suck ... badly. Personally, I haven't had many issues with poorly done applications (and I use a *lot*). The only ones that tend to drive me nuts are when developers cop out and do a verbatim conversion of an iOS app and use its theming, don't use the proper buttons, etc. In those…
To get a "unified experience", you can do the same with Android by only buying from a single manufacturer, or buying only Nexus devices as they have a consistent experience. Basically *temporarily* give up your ability to have options. Personally, I've had a variety of devices and find it a very "unified experience". …
The HTC One looks like a very nice phone. What was the problem with it?
The price is another. I just saw that an iPad Mini Retina was $400, double the price of the latest Nexus 7, which has the speed, a better screen, NFC, wireless charging, etc. That Apple ecosystem lock-in has a high cost, and you have no alternative suppliers. for both iOS hardware *and* software, it's Apple or…
There are system-wide equalizers available ... I don't remember if you need to be rooted or not though. I use PowerAmp as well, but actually like a lot of its features.
Word: ghoti
Treating Android like a second class citizen is not a great way to endear many of us to your business. There are other options that like supporting open platforms.
