Wait, what? Swinton knew and respected Cho’s work, knew that she had a strong opinion on the issue, and asked to be put in touch to understand Cho’s point of view.

Cho has made herself one of the main voices of this debate and was publicly criticizing the movie and Swinton. If someone does that, they can’t then claim that if someone wants to talk about it with them that they are being turned to as the only Asian in the room. She has set herself up as an expert on this issue for

That’s bullshit. Cho has been publicly criticizing the casting choice since at least last may.

I think if she was fishing for an Asian sign off she could have gotten that from one of the Asian people she was working with. Instead she reached out to the person who had raised the issue, hoping to better understand it from their point of view.

Why does John Legend need to change his name? I had no idea Aubrey plaza was in Suicide Squad

Oof.

I mean, she can do all the bits she wants, but she really trashed Swinton here. At what point does your bit have to be at least a little bit true if you’re going to trash someone in it? The e-mails make clear that the exchange was civil and pleasant. Overall, Swinton appears open, even if she doesn’t address Cho’s

Man, Tilda. I wish I was her girlfriend. She is lovely!

Being white means nothing in this situation. Here was one human being trying to earnestly relate to another human being of a different culture, and then said other person went on to be a two-faced ass about it for no reason.

The telling part is that Russia hacked both the RNC and the DNC. They only released the DNC information, which means they are blackmailing the Republicans to get their way. And as we all know Republican priorities are 1) themselves, 2) the party, and 3) the nation.

That ending gave me a serious lump in my throat as well and I can’t even put my finger on why. The nostalgia tie-in was nice, but that wasn’t really what set me off...

I was crying at the ending. It was amazing. But then I thought of all the kids I had seen outside for a private corporate screening. It definitely earned its PG-13 for the storyline alone.

I loved it too and had the same ‘Where’s all the women?’ complaint. It actually took me out of the moment when we got the full shot of the Rogue One crew in the spaceship and saw a lovely diverse sea of faces... but all male faces sans Jyn.

I loved this movie. I love the original trilogy but for movies based on a galactic rebellion against an evil empire, they are almost totally bloodless. This movie felt like a rebellion, like there were actual stakes, and the story felt realistic and beautiful and thankfully not the least bit superfluous. I was worried

2016 gotta 2016.

Progressives HAVE been vocal about the Obama deportation policy. But he’s also done a lot of good in the immigration arena, from DACA to the STEM OPT expansion to the enforcement priorities memos for ICE. So we can demonize him for the deportations alone, or we can admit that (like many other issues) it’s fucking

“4. Pocket glasses”

I’ll never understand why people disparage safe spaces, especially not the white dudes whose forefathers created private schools and the suburbs.

They can fuck right off with that noise.

I don’t know that I buy “equally qualified” as a thing that really exists...unless this friend’s daughter and the other candidate have had the exact same life experiences.
