No YOU misunderstand the point.  Meritocracy would imply a woman player could play without harassment, which is just not the case, period.  There’s plenty of women gamers who good enough to be there but can’t be due to toxicity levels rampant amongst gamers.  Most of them are GamerGate asswipes / incels anyways.

At this point, it'd just give them more information to dox her with, and it's really not her responsibility to prove her gender to them and it's something that really doesn't matter in the end. 

Ellie played Overwatch on stream and even brought on one player she was suspected of being, a top-500 player named Punisher, to prove that they were different people.

I hate this ending to the point where I don’t want to play the game anymore. It isn’t even that I need a ‘good’ ending where everyone lives merrily ever after, but I do need an ending that is a logical result of the gameplay itself.
