The FAA’s reasoning is that the safety planning wasn’t enough and that the stunt was not in the public interest.

They should have had co-pilots in both planes hiding in the back, just in case.  It would have satisfied the FAA, they could have done another take, and nobody would know the difference.

Driving in Germany is expensive. Getting your license costs thousands and can take months of work.

Apart from stricter driver licensing and better public transport, Germany also has stricter vehicle safety checks, and also road design explicitly includes safety, and also enforcement of the existing rules is stricter. These all emerge from a broader culture of regulation for public safety.

This is just an excuse to pull some body over to justify getting a look-see in the car.

The worst par about it is that someone built it.

So they took a car that's already a bad cartoon caricature of itself and turned it into a bad cartoon of a different car. This is the polar opposite of the Japanese guys who make kei cars look like 69 Chevy trucks, because those look like cute little miniatures while this looks like an overinflated balloon. 

I’m going to be perfectly honest with you. I wholeheartedly agree.

Everyone involved with this needs to be fired. Immediately.

That’s why I referenced the per-capita stat, but Germany also has way fewer deaths per vehicle AND vehicle mile traveled anyway.

The US has 300% more vehicle deaths per capita than Germany. How does Germany do that? Not with any of that BS you wrote about. They have strict licensing requirements and good transit infrastructure.

Define “should”. Should the 99% of people who don’t drive drunk be forced to blow into their car every time they need to go anywhere? Should I care if someone is too stupid to wear a seatbelt and gets themselves killed? Should we restrict everyone to exactly the same speed so there is no passing, no speed difference…

Oh Hell No!  I don’t drink and drive at all. Zero. Given that I would HATE to have to blow a DUI device to start my car.

It’s not just the last 10 months. I read stories about pilot shortages 5 years ago.

Hopefully this cuts down on all the “muffler delete” fans.
