There’s a sewer line under the bridge. Sewer lines are exceedingly sensitive to grade, and if you lower the line here, it will clog up downslope.

Every time one of these articles occur, someone says that. The answer is always the same: It would cost millions to “fix” this bridge, there are already adequate warnings, and ultimately it’s the driver’s fault.

It’s one of those things where they would have to add up the cost of every vehicle hitting that bridge for 10,000 years before they would get close to the cost of changing either the street level or the bridge height.
