I’m the reverse engineer who did the fan translation in 1997 with two friends of mine. I know you think that Butz is a silly name, and I agree, but that’s what it is. His name in Japanese is バッツ (battsu), not バーツ (ba-tsu) as it would be if Bartz were intended. Various Japanese documents also showed his name in Latin

Problem: Konami.

Problem: Konami.

Things like this don’t fly as much as they used to. Such rumors are often dismissed because people reverse engineer the games and find all the hidden content that the game may have to offer somewhere.

Cybersex. There’s a reason that Second Life is banned from streaming on Twitch.

Bisqwit is a well-known TAS maker and reverse engineer, so he wouldn’t report such passwords if they were merely artifacts of the password algorithm (as happened with JUSTIN BAILEY in Metroid).

In 2013, I found a password in the SNES game Breath of Fire that had stayed hidden for almost 20 years:

Yes, the Secret Service will take it seriously--as they should--and review the game. Then they’ll find that it is not a threat.

In other words, Twitch just raised the price by $2/month. Yay.

Does FIFA 17 come with a bribery simulator to enhance its realism?

Famicom Disk System. The bug was fixed in the American version by limiting the number of on-screen ghosts to 8. The American version was then un-translated to Japanese to release on cartridge, so the bug fixes and other tweaks from the American version are in the Japanese cartridge version.

Certain parts of the system’s internals call the system “PS-X”. For example, open any PS1 executable in a hex editor or Notepad and the file will begin with “PS-X EXE”. Some debugging strings in the BIOS also use this designation.

Sadly, finding a massive skip to the end won’t be found for another glitchy Zelda game, A Link Between Worlds:

If you set the number of hours to 100, it still only comes out to 23.00.

Super Mario Bros.

FF3 is also the first Final Fantasy of four in a row where you start on one world and then events cause you to end up going to another world.

More likely, it’d be someone doing some GPS spoofing to cheat and take the Area 51 Pokemon from far away.

That's so not true. Other emulators are more accurate than Virtual Console, particularly for SNES. You should see the garbage they used for the sound emulation on the SNES emulator for 3DS, which they only needed because they couldn't optimize enough. (The hackers, meanwhile, have a SNES emulator for 3DS that doesn't

It probably doesn't have accurate-enough emulation, or introduces a one-frame delay. Nintendo never gets this right.

It was!! In fact, the Dreamcast had better copy protection on its CDs than the Saturn or PS1 due to the “GD-ROM” format it used. The problem was that Sega put in a back door for themselves to run code from regular CDs, and didn’t secure it properly.
