One other important thing. Having a shop you can develop a relationship with is more important than ANYTHING else. Once you have a relationship you have trust. Trust is a two way street. The mechanic has to trust that if something does not go to plan that you won’t turn into a raging asshole.

Seems like an intentional attempt to drive away customers that bring high mileage cars, without turning them away outright (is there a law against refusing service in NJ?). Otherwise don’t see the purpose for this.
