I've been using Memtest86 for years (and years), but after my laptop hard drive died (the BIOS couldn't even see it any more), and read errors prevented me from creating an image backup of my son's PC using Bootit NG, I have renewed my interest in Spinrite - an old standby from Gibson Research. In my previous life as

The use of the GetGPSfix profile looks suspiciously similar (read identical, including name and capitalization) to my suggestion weeks ago in the Tasker discussions at Google Groups.

There a lots of good ideas and examples in the Tasker Wiki also.

@Wabbited: Any safety claims or approvals would be void once you start coating the thing in your own chemical concoction.

@Slinkytech: Though a MicroCell would require an available wired connection, jumping to the conclusion that a WiFi connection would also be available is just that - jumping to a conclusion.

Way back when I bought my first USB thumb drive, I purposely bought a Memorex model because it included a write-protect switch. When it eventually failed, I couldn't find any manufacturer that offered such a feature. Why anyone would WANT a drive without a write-protect feature is beyond me.

I don't do anything wrong, but I'm amazed at how often I discover others who do. :)

We bought a new dishwasher last year and upon first use, two things really annoyed me: the top-mounted buttons and the utensil rack.

@prupert: A lot of people dumped Locale, but cost was far from the only reason. Other reasons include: the beta worked better than the release version, the beta expired with no warning of any kind, and Locale sends data to a third party web site without disclosing this to the user. Yeah, some people are cheap, but

Last year I moved from an individual plan to a Verizon family plan, adding my wife and oldest son (age 11). My thinking was that their use would be minimal (compared to my typical 1000-1100 minutes per month), so I went with a shared 1400 minute plan with unlimited texting, figuring I'd have lots of wiggle room on

I wish they would work on the filter editing screen. It's possible to make some very complex filters, but the simplistic interface makes doing so far too difficult.

@Dignan17: Yeah... I've been using 2.0.5 on my Blackberry for months.

@Great_Moloko: If you're referring to sent messages in Gmail showing up as new messages on your Blackberry, try here.

I've been using Network Scanner by Softperfect (also free) for years, but this seems like it might be a step up. I will add though that Network Scanner is portable - I keep a copy on my USB stick.

I was using a similar feature on a POP3 email client on my phone (with a standard phone keypad) - a platform where something like this can be really useful. In many cases I just have to confirm receipt of an email, and a canned response will work fine. If they can implement this in their mobile app, that's where the

@magnoliasouth: I prefer functionality over looks and worrying about how ugly a phone is, is just a silly business...

I can only compare Windows Mobile and Blackberry from first-hand experience, and Blackberry wins easily. One of my requirements for a phone is that I can hold and operate it with one hand - which pretty much cuts any touch screen device out of the picture for me.

Getting the delete/archive functionality straightened out is something I'll appreciate on my Blackberry, but due to limitations of the Blackberry client, the rest of it is something I see little use for.
