I think the goal is to refute the “evidence” this poor, deluded gentleman presents, but yeah, the most direct conversation he mentions is the one where she told him she doesn’t date coworkers.

I think you’re fairly incorrect here: The royalty at the top has always been extra rich. But now there’s way more DIY out-of-nowhere guys who break through the mega-studio’s stranglehold on pop. From Lil Nas X now to Eminem’s freestyle mixes in ‘99, viral sharing helps way more artists come up from nowhere versus the

You are not mistaken.  WORK is lonely and looking for love, and that’s making him see clues where there are none.  I hope he has friends, because he’s going to need them to stop him from making a very costly mistake in the very likely scenario that she’s not into him.

he once told me he teaches at a university in the area

Yeah, Dan seems to get lost in the weeds there as he sorts through all of the things the guy said (i.e. are you the “he” in “he’ll figure it out eventually”) and he botches his conclusion. The part where she spoke to him directly is significant and was done on purpose.  He should focus on that and get all of the other

I love that 100% of Savage Love comment boards include someone saying, “Based on this guy’s brief description of this woman’s behavior, I think this woman is being deceptive.”

mentioning an attraction to older men

Re: WORK’s letter: “However, a few months ago she walked up to me out of the blue and said that she just wants platonic relationships with coworkers.”

While I agree with Dan about not emailing (very unnerving to have one’s secret sexual life crash in on one’s public professional life, especially in an electronic record), she could still use her knowledge of his work life to try for a “meet cute” where he would have the option of passing on further contact virtually

I’m hung up on the descriptor “vivacious”.

Quite the opposite is also occurring. A lot more not so well-known indie artists are making decent money off of a smaller following because they get to remain independent.

The music industry had it coming. Society found a way to strike back at greed and mismanagement. Remember the grand promise of the CD format making everything cheaper? Yeah, more like cheaper to make, but those savings were never passed on to consumers. I used to manage a CD/rental video shop that was part of a chain

The barrier to entry to monetizing your music is lower now. Prior to the internet how many talented musicians toiled away in bars to no avail because some record exec never came in to their venue? These folks still exist and still sell small batch recordings where they perform. The issue isn’t streaming the issue is

Much like CDs since 1999 I’m not really buying it. Even if they had come up with a copy protection to prevent sharing music streaming was inevitable. The entire industry was already moving to lowest common denominator music with boy bands and pre fab music. Giant media companies bought up all the independent radio

Yep. I remember finally finding Portishead’s Dummy and Echo and the Bunnymen’s What Are You Going to Do With Your Life in the fall of ‘99 (senior year) at a Baton Rouge music store (think it was Sam Goody), and they were both $19.99. I wanted them badly, but I also wanted to be able to keep paying my car insurance. Unf

I honestly never remember the difference between an LP and an EP because it just wasn’t really a thing anymore by then. You bought a full CD or a single($5 for like 2 tracks woot!), LP and EP weren’t terms we used.

Pretty sure 10 tracks would make it an LP, not an EP.

if you were buying super popular stuff stores could buy in massive quantities you’d get a break and they could be $15'ish, but in general you were plumping down $20+ if you wanted something even a little bit old or interesting.

Everywhere: The Wall, my local record stores, Best Buy, etc... CDs cost $20+ each in the late ‘90s.

“which should come as no surprise to anyone who remembers spending $23 on a 10-song EP packed into a cheap, oft-broken jewel case.”
