I was going to respond, but you said everything perfectly right here.
"Emily Yoffe states explicitly that she understands perpetrators are to blame for sexual assault. How on Earth would you know that she doesn't really mean this statement?"
As a man I can go out and get shitfaced to my heart's content and not have to worry about whether I'm somehow contributing to my own rape. Why should women have to change their entire behaviors so that they have less of a chance of becoming a victim? There are lots of reasons not to go out and get shitfaced, but if…
At this point I'm convinced that Ann Coulter is a left-wing plant designed to make the right look more crazy. She's doing a fine job for us. A fine, fine job.
So I normally don't care about wedding stuff. BUT...
Kelly Clarkson's dress/flowers/hair are fucking werkin. I love all of it. Exactly what I would go for if I were to get married. Loving every bit.
I saw a quote from a director/producer that said he basically didn't let up and wanted them all to live in their grief the entire time they were shooting. So yeah, it was pretty awful. And I say that as a fan of the show. I actually refused to watch any of it; it just all felt incredibly exploitative.
There was an option to do a song-less episode about drug addiction that focuses on teens (as C.M. started doing drugs when he was much younger). It would have been kind of like the West Wing 9-11 episode where a group of kids get locked in the White House during a tour because of an unspecified terrorist attack (I…
I completely agree. I don't watch Glee but I find the whole thing very tacky and viewer-baity. A man died because of his addiction, which is genuinely tragic; is the best way to honour a person really to milk it for everything it's worth and boost the ratings of your terrible show because of it? Tacky to the extreme.
I couldn't get beyond halfway on that Glee clip. I found the whole thing a bit gross. I just imagine them all being told, "Okay guys, so if you could all sit together on set, some of you could hold hands maybe? Great - then Lea's gonna lip-synch, while crying, to a song she recorded before (when she wasn't crying) and…
This is not about maintaining some sort of independence or autonomy, this is about taking care of your fucking responsibilities.
But, why did they have to go?
I think my severe dislike of KK, coupled with me being surrounded by moms who are very into attachment parenting (or whatever its called) - may have made me sound more judgmental than I intended. Also, I was under impression that KK was gone for 3 weeks and not a few days, which obviously further invalidates my…
"Even my 6 year old can really only do a weekend away before she misses her parents."
Seriously! People are acting like she left her baby in a cardboard box for three days! I have a hard time believing she could have suffered real harm from spending three days being taken care of by the rest of family or the nannies (let's be real, it was totally the nannies).
Also want to say — and it's kind of crazy that I feel the need to say it — her father's pretty amazing, too. There are a lot of men (not just in that part of the world) who would not be so supportive of their daughters.
Knowing that someone like this exists in the world makes one cry. She is so amazing, awesome, mature, and knowledgeable that you realize that you are witness to a special type of person. A type of person who has the ability to change her community, country, the world.
Yesterday, we laughed at the Talibans for fearing a 16 year old girl.
She blows my mind. She is going to change the world. So eloquent and wise. I watched this in bed this morning, and I just started crying. We need more Malala's in this world.
That makes me ache a little for you. I was kind of hoping you'd be like, "Yeah, the first 10 years really sucked and then number 11 was total cake!" I sigh for both of us.
