But, but, but.... those examples in the above photos are not "style"! The full prepster outfit with the dockers and Oxford shirt and boat shoes and Ray Bans; the leather jacket paired with the ripped jeans and the motorcycle boots? This is not personal style... this is mimicry or stereotype dressing, like Barbie in

That was the quote that really made me go:

I guess so... says a Jennifer. :) I guess I should be grateful because when I name my soon-t0-be children Jack and Charlotte those will be unique in this day and age. :)

I see your point, but I do not agree. Women have struggled to get starring roles in Hollywood- they are SO likely to be the attractive love interest or the sexy femme fatale foil or the raving bitch, but never the actual likeable multi-dimensional protagonist of anything other than a benign 80s-90s rom com.

You make great points re: Bridesmaids, but your example of Parks and Rec kinda drives my point home: IT IS POSSIBLE to depict healthy female friendships (and conflict therein) without resorting to the shenanigans in Bridesmaids. (Michael Shur is one of the best feminist writers out there- I hope he makes movies)....

Why do people do this shit to their children? I do not understand. Childhood and adolescence is fucking HARD, man (and I was named the most generic name of 1975!)- who needs a crazy moniker to overcome? I guess money makes it okay to be named North West, or Apple, or Pilot Inspektor? Ugh....

I guess so. But for me it traded in stereotypes. We always see the jealous, sabotaging kind of female friendships. Never the healthy ones. I guess that doesn't make good comedy, but that movie could have been SO much better if she was unhinged but not so jealous and awful. I HATED KW's character and loathed the entire

That's even more disappointing because from my standpoint it's one of the least feminist movies out there, excepting the fact that it allowed women to write it and get it made, which IS a triumph in Hollywood these days. But the content/premise- holy shit. The. Worst. IM(notso)HO. :)

I literally was in the fetal position in my seat cringing by 1/2 the way thru. Maybe I am lucky, but my close female friendships are not about zero sum when it comes to love and professional success, and are insanely supportive and healthy. And hell yes (with a separate deep cringe) to your point. That movie is the

Bridesmaids was written by a feminist? Really? Because I thought it traded in the WORST stereotypes of women, that all their female friendships are competitive, that they can't be happy for a friend doing well and like to sabotage each other. Yes, I think I am the rare person who LOATHES that movie.

Now playing

The best Gallagher reference ever was in the late lamented show Happy Endings. Two main characters' father loved him so for his mattress store anniversary party he was a central conceit. Elisha Cuthbert's character breaks out laughing about his watermelon routine and goes, "it's funny 'cause it's wasteful" which: ha!

I really really wish the media weren't chomping the Kardashian hook so gustily. They are playing this so well, the media-savvy assholes: not releasing the name, pretending the child was significantly premature, etc.... and it's all so damn obviously a ploy to get big bucks for the first photos/name release. Which they

Where's the option for "OH, FUCK NO"?

"Abortion is a symptom of a sexually sick society (as in, unwilling to be responsible about sex)"- really? You think you can eliminate abortion by sex education et al? You think all women who have abortions are sick or are a symptom of bad education or responsibility? No way. I got pregnant ON THE PILL. And I am not

Oh, I am intrigued. When you are less tired, tell me more. Is it like how much I hated Silver Linings Playbook (I walked out with 15 min to go)?

I really enjoyed Friends With Kids, Jennifer Westfeldt's movie. Although it was disheartening that she made some choices that felt backwards when it comes to movies by women for women (an obsession she had with being unattractive, the loose vagina thing after giving birth and the pat ending).

Aren't movies kinda dying, in a way? I mean, teenage boys and families may always find themselves there, but I feel as though all the care, passion and innovation the entertainment industry can cobble together now goes towards television, where I feel it is far more equitable in terms of starring gender roles. So this

This made me laugh so hard. Thanks.
