I think the validity of the comparison is pretty clear. In both instances, the result is the same (death, or people being watched during sex). The intent matters enough to warrant different terminology and different sentences. In both cases, accidentally causing the result should be treated far differently than

I’ve heard of her, but never heard her voice. Lord almighty. I would need some pretty extraordinary drugs to get through that.

He was Otello at the Met this season. I really loved him in that role. Not the best operatic actor ever, but the voice was on point.

re: Otello - Aleksandr Antonenko, all day every day.

...what the everloving fuck was that?

That’s very true. I would still like to see blockbusters with POC about something other than slavery or civil rights. Independent movies are important, but if those are the only movies made, it risks becoming a niche market just for POC, while movies about/by white people are still seen as movies for everyone.

That’s true, and ideally that would be the case. But the way Hollywood is now, with the difficulty of getting movies made starring POC (whatever the topic), I think it would be difficult to push numerous projects at the same time starring POC. That would be ideal, but you know. Rich white people.

Ok, but did you see my reply to her comment? My read of this article is not that NO movies about slavery should ever be made, ever. I think she’s saying we should pause on those until we make other films about POC outside of that point in time. Movies about slavery are hugely important, but if those are the only

Honestly, I can’t say - I’m not black. I just see his movies as I see Ben Stiller or Adam Sandler’s movies - poorly made and tragically unfunny.

I don’t think Kara is saying “no more movies about slavery, period”, but rather let’s put slavery movies on hiatus until we can get OTHER films featuring POC. Because right now, if you have a large cast of POC (minus Tyler Perry movies which I hesitate to call movies), you can make a reasonable guess it’s about

Co-signed. Or anytime you have a romance where there’s a mixed race couple, it’s always THE problem they have to overcome. Oh no, racist parents, clash of cultures! Why can’t they just be two people who have regular couple problems?

The thing is, at 11 months, it’s easy to feed a kid a vegan diet. They can eat other foods at that age! Why are they not getting pureed fruits and veggies?

Another reason this doesn’t make sense? 11 month old babies are no longer on milk-only diets - babies can eat solid food from 4-6 months. So this kid could (and should) have been eating yogurt, pureed veggies, etc. WTF?!

Came here to say that exact thing. She chose a terrible song that didn’t showcase the range or depth of her voice, and he did. Done.

When I moved abroad, my mum and I would keep in touch via email. This was largely due to the significant time difference, but it worked well. You could check in, but it never felt on the spot and we could both respond whenever we had the time to do so. That might be something to try if the phone calls aren’t working

This is a horrible story, and I’m so sorry for your mother and all the women who experienced such terrible abuse at the hand of church clergy.

The free health care keeps us looking young.

Please stop defending this. It’s like saying people who were raped “had sex” and women who are trafficked are “sex workers.” It’s deliberately misleading.

Definitely. I find British TV quite good for that. The people are still attractive, but not necessarily drop-dead gorgeous model types you would never see in real life.

I had no idea I was just watching Peaky Blinders for the hot men, and despite all the crime and violence. Thanks for clearing that up for me - I’ll be sure to stop watching until a man coerces me to do so.
