Eh, you might have just gotten lucky as a kid. I bought a returned fridge, and a washer and dryer off craigslist almost 10 years ago. I still have them all and they all work great. I have had to replace the heating element on the dryer and the felt drum gasket but those are pretty common maintenance issues.
