Mmm okay, let’s meet in the middle? Pakistan received a large amount of early help from China which got a large amount of help from the Soviets. And NK traded ballistic missile tech for nuclear tech with Pakistan. So the knowledge came from those sources in a round-about way.

I agree that the proclamation of a 2-stage device is bogus. But looking at the history of nuclear weapon development worldwide, I doubt very much that they are pursuing a gun-type device.
