The only demo I ever invested significant time into was the Crackdown demo on the Xbox 360. The demo was so much fun even just as a limited and time restricted snapshot of the full game, and then I greatly enjoyed the full game as well.

It’s unrealistic to say “if you want to win games you have to buy $150 accessories like the cool people”. What is realistic is expecting to be able to play the console you bought online with the controller it comes with, though.

For single player games sure, but in console multiplayer it gives you such an enormous look speed/accuracy advantage that even pro players with controllers would have trouble competing.
