a lot of these acquisitions is to strengthen the Gamepass value. MS sees Gamepass as the brand’s future and are just making this big splashes to strengthen the product which will help MS in the gaming space in decades to come.
You can rightly argue that less competition will result in a general negative impact on the market over time, but this will almost certainly result in a net positive for the industry at least in the short term, if only because Xbox under Phil Spencer has been one of the most consumer friendly game companies out there…
Bungie was never owned by Activision; they just had a publishing deal with them, which has been over for several years now.
Bungie is independent. They don’t even work with Activision on Destiny anymore, and self publish. This deal would have zero impact on them.
