Honestly, this will be the first GTA that I've ever finished the story. I got fed up with the time it took to have to start everything over again, and just caused havoc in the streets instead. Having said that, they could easily patch in an option to turn on/off the checkpoint system.

Hold select, it's one of the options - it's $100 at early levels. You can also quick select ATM's, etc. Alter your appearance, change your taunt emotes, highlight other players on the map, commit suicide, etc.

Not sure if you mean in game (on the map, etc)? If you hold select (I think) one of the options is to highlight players of your choosing as a different color blip on the map. It was handy to have with people that I was trying to play with.
