I know, and it's SO GOOD! I'm trying to remember where I first heard about it (because it wasn't until several months after its release) but I'm so glad I found out. I've been playing it through again and they did such a good job - You are in for a real treat!

You are welcome man. They did an incredible job on this and it hurts me tremendously to think of all of the WC fans who don't even know this exists. I give it shout outs every chance I get in the hopes of sharing the experience with fellow WC fans like yourself.

Kinja!!!

I should have read this before inadvertently triple posting - D'oh! Thanks for the tip.

Any Wing Commander fan shouldn't miss the fantastic 2012 release of the Black Mesa of the WC universe: Wing Commander Saga. 55 missions, 11,000 lines of dialogue, 60 voice actors, Freespace 2 engine, fantastic original soundtrack, CG briefings and cutscenes, and FREE! I plug this game every chance I get because as a

Check out this write-up on it by RPS (March 2012) for some mouth-watering screenshots and a good summary of what to expect. I have also embedded the somewhat overserious launch trailer, but they do strive valiantly (and quite effectively, especially given the limitations of the Freespace 2 engine) for the cinematic

Perfect.

Here here! BTW, have you played Wing Commander Saga? Fully voice acted (with a large cast), CG cutscenes, amazing original soundtrack, and so on. I think you could add a second to your list. 2012 was a great year for awesome free games.

I totally agree with you and second your Black Mesa love and laudits. I also agree that it was one of the best games of last year, and while you can certainly ding the voice acting (though I though it was totally fine), you can ding the voice acting in lots of games that were professionally funded and produced.

Haha, I actually liked the Xen levels too. I can understand people's complaints about it but honestly when I played it as a freshman in college back in 1999 I thought it was wild, novel, threatening, alien, scary, and fun. True, I hated those freaking flying brain things that throw the fireballs at you, but

It seems like a lot of people on here complaining about it being unfinished to the degree that it isn't worthy of compensation didn't play it. While it is true that it doesn't have the Xen levels (the last, what, 1/8th of the game?), it does have EVERYTHING ELSE and it is as positively polished and professional as

I never noticed the horse statue behind him in this image. Foreshadowing! "Get to the horse!" LG Orbifold (music) + Epic Strider Battle = Awesome! I love this game.

So many great tracks (*Mild Spoiler Alert* for the 10 of you who haven't played Half-Life 2):

This game has a great soundtrack. I especially dig the Mantis and Rockmen music, but I think that The Last Stand music really is something special. Great pick!

Man, Half-Life had some fantastic, atmospheric music. But the one that hit me the hardest was when Vortal Combat started playing just after the Vortigaunts arrived and then all of the Antlion lights glared on and you dug in your heels for a crazy, no-holds-barred fight for survival. Fantastic stuff!

I picked up the soundtrack from the library before I ever played the game. I was looking for some cool space/ambient/electronic music and thought this looked cool. M4 Part II was a fantastic and unexpected surprise at the end of the CD and was one of the things that convinced me to pick up the game. Mass Effect

Yes!!! This soundtrack is fantastic! So glad someone mentioned this. They really did a phenomenal job, including on the original track(s).
