I can get behind this, a number of the classier eateries that I have gone to have a sign that states talking on cell phones are prohibited. I've even seen people talking on cell phones during dinner being asked to step outside, or into the bar area.

According to wikipedia facebook chat was released in april 2008, I would argue that the introduction of gmail chat/gtalk in 2006wiki source was a much larger driver into the decrease in popularity of AIM, especially because in 2007 gtalk allowed you to integrate AIM contacts.
