Someone who doesn’t even know they’re ‘watching’ the stream is not a real stream view, and everyone knows that.

“I wouldn’t compare it to viewbotting. There technically is someone watching the stream.”

I think you hit the nail on the head: People got tired of being sent down a lame multi-click rabbit hole.

It’s really baffling to me how many of these media companies seem to have no idea a huge percentage of their audience comes from bored office dwellers who would very much not like their bosses to see them watching videos when they walk down the hall.

These ideas don’t seem that retro to me... Of course, actually using a phone to verbally talk to someone at all is becoming a retro idea...

Maaaayyyyybbbbeee I work in an exceedingly old fashioned industry (government), but we’re still expected to change our voicemails if we’re out of the office / say when we’ll be back as well as provide that info to the group admin person. I find it odd that you’d find it strange...

Wow, I didn’t even realize Upworthy wasn’t a thing anymore. It was so ever-present in the early 2010s that I just started skimming over their posts on Facebook, and I forgot that I stopped seeing them.

And then pay for the server space and advertising how? Something like a 30% revenue share on in-app purchases? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Everyone knows you store the files from your hacking job in a folder marked “Totally Not Hacking Related”. That way the Feds miss it entirely.

I feel like this should just replace the article.

The expression is “off-putting”, not odd putting. Although, that might have been a typo, they ARE right beside each other.

Not hard to get behind the message that CBP is abusing its power. But, of course, there are numerous problems with how you present this:
