As a therapist, I've always thought of nail biting as part of an oral fixation. An anxiety from childhood of not getting fed enough/when you wanted it/how you wanted/you were a little a-hole baby. Not a diagnosis or serious problem.

I remember having a psych teacher talk about how disgust is learned. So while the smell/ look/thought of/talking about poop may gross people out, they learned it somewhere. I blame Christianity.

Definitely! I had to quit a few years ago, because i was getting freaky deaky panic attacks, but i still dream about smoking up and just relaxing after a torturous day (and i'm also a mental health practitioner!)
