Making an L4 system is MASSIVELY difficult even with a LIDAR unit on a car, without one, good luck. GMs SuperCruise is far closer to an L3 system than…

Tesla will never be level 4/5 capable with radar and camera only perception. It’s not development limited (as Elon indicates), it’s sensor physical capability limited.

1. The very definition of L4 is that the driver must not be required to take over, so it *cannot* be a “low 4". By many demo videos on Youtube, the Tesla system very much requires driver intervention — it’s not a legal gimmick.

The requirement that the driver be ready to take over any moment is by far the biggest problem here. If you can’t sleep in an AV, what the hell good is it?
