While it sounds measured and thoughtful, Paskin's write up of LiLo still smacks of hatchet job. Lohan was very good in Mean Girls, which is a good movie. Her flameout came righty at the heels of the movie's release.

There is no "Whiteness" inherent in Kingpin's character and origin. He's a huge scary and extremely smart criminal from the slums of NY. What's important in the character is he believably a New Yorker, is he enormous and powerfully strong, is he smart? Clarke Duncan fit the bill. So no problem casting a Black actor.

Craig and Brosnan in 1 and 2. I just really needed a Bond who was plausibly an actually scary killer and these two delivered. Bond is a terrifying guy with an enormous body count and anyone over the age of 12 knows that anyone with that much blood on their hands isn't at heart a silly punster or a barrel of laughs.

You can also fanwank that the alien tech Hasn't changed in 47 years because the downed ship was a scout from the same invading force. It took the main force 47 years to reach Earth and they never encountered another sentient race so there'd be no need/opportunity to revamp their tech.
