This reminds me of the part of Bossypants where Fey outlines why people who ask strangers about scars are the woooooorst.

The second picture is supposed to be a play on "gold diggers", they literally want to look like they have coal/dirt smudges on their face.

Yeah, I think even the idea that guns should be kept in gun safes when not in use warrants an F rating from the NRA, so most actual responsible gun owners would probably end up with that rating as well.

The NRA basically gives an F rating to anyone who has gotten within 2,000 meters of the word gun control.

In that context, it's basically "want to say that to my face?"

I want to bring my boyfriend to everything

If I lived in Washington DC, I’d probably buy this dress.

Probably also for parties and the cheap rent?

They’re not really calling Bermuda a dump, they’re sarcastically saying that if Becky really thinks Bermuda is a “dump” then she could just make her own sea glass without having to even visit.

I probably would have answered it the same way*- ask a dumb question, get a dumb answer.

I’m the same way and I don’t think you should really feel bad about it (thought obviously I’m pretty biased). My general policy is that you get a maximum of 3 extended bitch-sessions to complain about whatever to my sympathetic ears before you need to start at least trying to fix the issue (as much as it can be

Nailed it!

Yeah, I can see the confusion. It can also be confusing because a small subset of the people who say they are "backpacking in Europe/Asia" actually do mean a combo of camping/hiking/hitchhiking/hosteling through Europe/Asia.

I think you & the author are using “backpacking” to mean two different things here. Pretty sure the author means backpacking as in “backpacking through Europe/Asia/etc.” - i.e., traveling on the cheap between a bunch of different locations & staying in hostels. Whereas, you & the OP seem to be thinking of backpacking

The Chicago Ulta they're referring to is 4 stories but a lot narrower, because it's a downtown retail space. It's about the same overall size as the other Ultas I've been to.

I’ve been to the Ulta in downtown Chicago & it’s about 30% luxury makeup & skincare products & 70% stuff I can buy at the nice Walgreens. Sephora generally has all the luxury brands sold at Ulta plus a bunch of luxury brands not sold at Ulta. Where Ulta does better is in the extra services provided (facial, hair

Yeah, my mother sees a chiropractor who is also a licensed physical therapist and massage therapist. But I'm pretty sure most chiropractors don't actually have those other qualifications that might make seeing them actually useful.

Yeah, pretty much every larger corporation that does regular business travel uses travel agents. If you have to get 5 people from NYC to Chicago, arrange accommodations, book transportation to and from a venue, and potentially make reservations for client dinners, it’s 100x easier to use a third-party travel agent

Have you never met a hipster that listens to rap? I don't know why you'd be surprised that Pitchfork reviews music that is fairly popular with it's core demographic.

Yes, even if you don't have any personal savings (which you should at least try to build up), you should absolutely get a 401(k)/IRA/Roth IRA ASAP. Especially if your employer does any sort of matching, otherwise you are basically giving away free money.
