Part of the backlash against the Xbox One's unveiling is the rekindling of that age-old struggle over software ownership (if it's on the disc and I bought it, is it mine? can I let others use it? etc). I don't believe 'purchase a license' should apply if it's on a disc and the disc is required to run the software. The

My point is gaming fanboys aren't the only ones in this comment section. The Xbox One has already garnered a sizable fanboy base as well, and they likely aren't gaming fanboys. I see a lot of people looking down on Kotaku readers here, which is amusing since I see none of the opposite on Kotaku.

You make a good point. The gaming industry is fragile and with its track record in the past few years it's clear it will implode upon itself if it continues the way it is - that being, if publishers continue to expect absurd ROI from their AAA marketed titles that aren't actually AAA material. The problem I personally

There are gadget fanboys as well, look at Apple's fans. They aren't limited to gaming, and though this article targets them, I see more than just gaming fanboys in the comments.

Yes sure, side B is baaad! Side A goood! The reality is the gizmodo crowd and the kotaku crowd look for different things in the Xbox One. One group sees features they like; the other does not. It's as simple as that. The only childish people are the ones badmouthing the other group.

I don't doubt for a second companies like EA and Microsoft would try to monetize libraries.

Sony hasn't been games-only since the PS2 though. They supported DVD (it helped sell the console at first after all) but the main idea of the console was always games first and foremost. That's the point I'm making. You do seem to agree with me there, so there isn't much for us to debate on.

Hardly. The PS2 is the KING of its generation. While it supported DVDs, its main focus was always games, no ifs ands or buts, and that is perfectly clear no matter how you try to spin it.

Ah right. Thanks for the clear-up.

If Sony goes the same route as MS with used games, I probably won't support either of them next gen. I just don't have the money to buy new all the time.

Aw man :( well let's hope.

Yes it does.

If you paid for at least a month of subscription I believe, you get the game free and a permanently lowered subscription.

Not only that, PS3 and PC players share the same world.

Lol man, that's so negative. I'm considering picking it up myself, the exploration and gameplay look appealing to me.

I've had a similar sinking feeling about Sony. MS would never have done this to the used games market on their own, the publishers were clearly pressuring them. And from the sound of things (EA...), Sony was also backed into a corner. This may be the generation I stop buying consoles (well, I might get a Wii U later

I don't see a balance of opinion anywhere. It's either you hate the new Xbox or you're defending it. The two camps have lumped themselves into their corners and, just like Kotaku, over here on Gizmodo is really no different: any dissenting opinions are dog-piled, group think rules the day, people pat themselves on the

That's great! Wii U needs the boost, having Mistwalker on board is a win.

I'm in the middle of Res-o-Fate atm. I'm at the part with the really cold fridge-like place. Does it get better? It's been dragging so far.

Neptune will save us all!
