Anyone who has seen this movie loved it. It is just pure, undiluted, fantasy fun.
There's some of that in Telltale Games' version.
If they made this now but with computer generated animation it would be a fucking license to print money.
I don't have a picture, but Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World. That movie is fucking awesome. It showed that there are worlds out there that can be fun and crazy simply to be fun and crazy. And it showed video game physics in a way that was fantastic instead of ridiculous.
That was wonderfully self-aware and charming.

Beyond being 2 wonderful movies, I would say that both of these pretty well sum up how tech in the 2000's felt like it was leading to artificiality, isolation and alienation. It was the comedown after the giddy highs of 90's VR and internet worship, caused by familiarity and practicality.
