You can see in the photo bdh posts, but it’s similar to what you’ve described. I think it’s all inside a final layer that’s kinda slippery for insertion (without affecting absorption) and the action end is nice and rounded. They do expand uniformly and keep their shape.

I remember trying to take the tampon out of the applicator once and was horrified to discover that the applicator was hiding a mere scrap of cotton, barely wrapped around a string. It was uninsertable without the applicator because it was a flimsy piece of shit. It was a major name brand, too.

They’re really so easy to use! So much less muss and fuss than applicators and a much easier solution than reuseable applicators. Geez, people, we all need to change our behavior to save the environment. This is such a small way that doesn’t include the additional carbon waste of making yet another unnecessary product…
