@MWAussie: I don't think all women who wear miniskirts or get breast implants do that out of free and independent choice either. That doesn't mean that I can make sweeping regulations prohibiting them. Every choice should be available to every woman. If your concern is for oppression within the home and unequal

@MWAussie: What evidence do you have that these women only have friends that also cover? Or that they are subservient within their homes?

@PrisonBreakShaker: Did you see those Jews in their long skirts and wigs? Quick - somebody save them!

@Lynx: But someone who chooses a life in which they have voluntarily delineated their community is not likely to be the same person who wants to be the American president. This is probably a person who is more comfortable within a smaller network of people. I'm not saying the choice seems appealing to me. But

@Lynx: I don't understand your question. How does limiting one's circle of intimacy impact the political process? These women still engage in civic interaction and commerce - just in a way that is different from what we have normalized. They can still speak at political gatherings, vote, attend school, public books

@dcwonderwoman: But the thing is, that woman ought to be permitted to decide who she extends that intimacy to. She does not cease to exist simply because you cannot view her in the way that makes you most comfortable.

I'll admit that I struggled with this when I was in the middle east. I had always been a strong advocate of religious freedom and dress but standing at the airport watching a flight board to Riyadh, I was struck with just how silencing and isolating the burqua is. I could not exchange friendly looks with the mothers

@MamaB: She's 5. I'm assuming you'd talk her out of smoking cigarettes and driving the car too, no?

@sbarney: I'll take zombie over gym shoes in public. Not even a second thought.

@sbarney: We all have to go sometime. I'm at peace with that.

@outrageouschaos: No, no. It's a log of brie that I can neatly slice and lay on little round crackers purchased precisely for this purpose.

@sbarney: Yeah, gym shoes are not casual wear.

You guys - Brie in a log. I wouldn't joke about something like this. I wish they would call it something more delicate and refined but I'll eat it anyway. All of it. By myself. Tonight.

@cowboy killer: Talk to the manager first. Call the bank if that doesn't work.

@Arachnophile: Live by the sword, die by the sword. He knew it would come one day.

@sbarney: You can find support insoles at a place like REI. Depends how much appearance/style matters to you.

@sbarney: Converse. Black preferred, white also allowed.
