As a medical professional, I assure you ketosis is not the same as ketoacidosis.

Whenever someone tells me about the restrictive diet they force on their pet(s):

Do you or your dog have epilepsy? A qualified medical professional may recommend the ketogenic diet for either of you (yes, dogs too), and recommendations for doing it properly in order to prevent the side effects (because yes, there are side effects, just like any medication used to treat a medical condition) that

I’m pretty sure I was doing the same thing at the time you posted this.

My kitty is also plush! We were feeding her less for a while but she was SO MEAN when she was hungry. Just like me! She also has a floppy hernia tummy from the shelter who “fixed her” so, all around she’s a snuggle (when she’s happy, anyway!)

Kirby agrees, keto for animals is bullshit.

Or..to sum up. Don’t put your pets on stupid, fad diets. People shouldn’t do them either, but pets don’t have a choice.

I had a cat that was diabetic and when she first was diagnosed the vet said there basically was an epidemic because their modern diets are filled with so many carbs/little protein, and as obligate carnivores they’re not made to process it and they end up diabetic. Moving her to a cat food that was higher in protein

No keto for guinea piggehs. Bad real bad.

This is Bosco. He is giving the stinkeye to Keto diets. He gives stinkeye to all diets.

My vet kept telling me Logan needed to be on a diet. Her advice was just “put less food in his bowl.” However, he was miserable on a diet and he never really lost any weight. His new vet told us to not worry about it. His weight is stable and any medical problems he has (he has an autoimmune disorder of the skin

“Is my own butthole keto?

This is IN NO WAY an endorsement of keto, but when this vet says “pets,” I’m assuming she means (mostly) dogs? Cats are meat-eaters that are incapable of deriving much nutrition from veggies or other carbs, except some greens. I’d rather see someone put their cat on keto and stop stuffing them with grains than try to

Pretty much the same exact thing happened to us! We fell in love with a black lab mix puppy at a shelter and the shelter workers estimated that he’d grow to be about 50 lbs. A couple of days later we took him to our vet practice to get the real scoop and among other things asked how big he would get. “Oh, about 80

Isn’t is super depressing that this even has to be said?

PETA still pushes for Vegan Cats,

Look at that Good Doggo. I just wanna kiss her little nose and let her sit on my lap (I don’t care that she’s 100 pounds. Joy is being squashed by a giant dog that thinks it’s a lapdog).

They really are sweethearts. Mine is a 9 year old ridgeback and (I think) lab mix that I adopted when she was a 25 lb pup. At the time, I asked the lady at the shelter how big she thought she would get when full grown. She said, “oh...maybe fourty-five pounds.”

“It is much healthier for people, as well as pets, to eat a balanced diet with lean meats as protein sources, as well as vegetables, fruits and healthy grains.”

Damn... I never and I mean never expected to find my epithet on Jezebel, but I’ll be damned (probably am anyway) if it didn’t happen.  My I tombstone will read: “I don’t know anything, and I haven’t learned”
