before I went to college I was super naive and ignorant and dumb

*fresh faced with a pound of foundation, my bad.

Maybe it’s just because I’m an old, but I don’t think any of these influencers (gag) look fresh-faced: they all look like they’re 10 years older trying to look their actual age. (Does that make sense? She looks like she’s late 20's/early 30's trying to look 20.) It’s weird. Maybe it’s the crazy contouring or filters

I watch the YouTubes, there’s some legitimately entertaining or interesting content there, but vast swaths of it is just trash.

It’s fascinating. A woman I work with was telling me yesterday that her teenaged daughter is glued to her phone all day watching “amateur videos of people doing things”...like makeup, shopping, unboxing, and crafts. So when this woman noticed her daughter had gone down an hours-long wormhole of soap-making videos, she

I hope people that have been rejected by USC sue the school.

One thing I’m really interested in (assuming we all last that long) is what do these “influencers” look like in 5 or 10 years?

I already can’t believe that people give a shit what type of makeup Aunt Becky’s teenage daughter wears, but one she ages out of the slightly older sister demo, who is going to listen to her?

I have a couple ideas:

Same - I did ok, but I’ll never forget sitting down with my dad and him telling me with tears in his eyes that I couldn’t go to my dream school because we just couldn’t make it work financially.

My kid discovered unboxing videos a little while ago and is obsessed. I find them incredibly boring at best and kind of frightening at worst (hello, materialism). I cannot understand what he likes about them, but if I let him he would literally sit there all day and watch them. It’s the most bizarre thing in the

if I had a dime every time someone told me “we can’t afford it, we can’t afford it, even with a scholarship we can’t afford it,” when I was applying to colleges....

... and think about the worthy, merit-based student whose place she might have taken.

I don’t know a more embarrassing OJ to come out of USC.

Those cheek highlights are not great advertising for her palette.

I mean, if you paid that much to get her into college, just how many of those subscribers and followers are real and not bought (bot)?

As a parent of a child who watches You Tube videos, I don’t get the idea of watching You Tube videos and I assume my kid is wasting a bunch of time.

“I don’t know how much of school I’m gonna attend,” she shared with her nearly 2 million subscribers, after explaining her extensive work schedule. “But I’m gonna go in and talk to my deans and everyone, and hope that I can try and balance it all. But I do want the experience of like game days, partying…I don’t really
