Years ago, I quit a job that literally made me cry at my desk to work something fun and temporary for the summer. It was a super fun place- a young restaurant crowd working summer jobs at the beach. Everyone was younger; I was like the old lady of the bunch, at 37. There was this guy in another department who was

This is the latest permutation of racism as it slithers away from consequence: the idea the you must be a blonde, blue eyed Aryan descendant of the DAR to be racist.

Yeah that stopped me short...like only white people are racist toward black people???

who she claims is just “very young” and “emotionally unwell”

You are asking the wrong question. It does not matter who raised her or how much exposure she has to a culture. If I was raised by Korean parents I would still be Latinx not Asian. If I lived in Nigeria for 20 years, I could eventually be a Nigerian citizen, but ethnically I would still be Latinx. No matter how many

“If she wants to identify this way, she is more than entitled.”

No actually the boundaries are very well defined.

So as a non-Asian person, by that logic, if my stepfather is Korean does that mean I can all of a sudden claim that culture?

I used to live with a guy who I honestly consider to be the most clever person I ever met. He really was truly intelligent with a lot of tech stuff, he managed to turn this thing into a rudimentary 3D scanner. He was also an amazing artist and melted plastic wrap into a sculpture and used that as his scanning test.

Nobody seems to deny she needed the psych eval, and her own lawyer supported her getting it - after all, you can be having a mental health crisis AND be trying to tell the cops something true and important and scary. [indeed, there’s probably a correlation]

I love how a girlfriend’s highly specific and unprompted statement, corroborated by a lawyer who also represented the alleged bomb builder, that the guy was building bombs in an identified location is seen as insufficient for a warrant to search said location, but...

I guess the person who wrote this is a member of Gen Z (or Millennial cusp?) so why on Earth would she know about Punky Brewster (or Sabrina the Teenage Witch,) but it’s like, Wikipedia is right there lol.

Soleil Moon Frye was/is Punky Brewster.

The name was in the letter but redacted when it was publicly released. I don’t know if the reporter saw the redacted or unredacted version.

personally i think he probably doesn’t want their relationship to get out because he is talking to other women and conning them too (typical in prison) and he really isn’t into her. at. all. he is bored as hell and is using her for amusement.

she says, “That’s sweet,” quietly, not convincingly

No. Shkreli’s own lawyers referred to a fiancee when they petitioned to get him out of prison this spring. (And Elle almost certainly would require some kind of proof that she’s not just fully inventing it.)

It’s possible she is having a complete break with reality, and it is more possible that she has exaggerated in her own mind certain aspects of the relationship. But the simplest explanation, to me, is that a manipulative asshole who is in jail for fraud saw someone he could manipulate to his own ends, i.e. receiving

That whole Elle article was just a list of red flags and him priming her to accept being manipulated by him.

I’ve seen Google employees named as co-authors on papers that are arguably more controversial than this, too. It seems odd that they would ask their employee’s names be removed, unless those individuals themselves had some issue with the product.
