I’m going to assume that it’s the same root-word as the origin for chaffing dish, and leave it at that. Should be a suitable mnemonic for myself...

Yeah, it’s bizarre. My first job out of school was for a European company, and their policy was at least very generous by US standards. Between that and a long stint at another company, I’ve gotten used to “civilized” amounts of time off. I chose to change jobs/sectors for new challenges and opportunities, but the

Yes, and more importantly, I negotiated much more aggressively for Vacation time. I’m at a life point where that affects quality of life more than a couple of extra thousand dollars per year, so I put my employer through a rather rigorous bidding process. (I was fortunate to have two offers on the table, so there was

Totally awesome, but $10 says this ends up in a Michael Bay movie inside of 18 months.

Yes, the DOS software uses the Compaq’s proprietary expansion port to talk to the ECU through the CA card. But the fact that it’s dubbed a CA card and not “bespoke bus interface” means that it’s providing Conditional Access capabilities as well as being a bus interface.

Conditional Access - basically a “dongle” card that responds to a security challenge with an appropriate response. Lots of different systems in place (Satellite and Cable Boxes use modern versions of these), but the basic idea is that it can respond with an appropriate pseudo-random code value, or even a set of

I’m with you. Steamed, mushy mushrooms is more about crowding the pan. If your mushrooms are piling up, you definitely have too many. If you’re getting mushy shrooms even with a “single layer” in the pan, you probably don’t have enough heat. Saute’ is the one time when you’re free to put the spurs to ‘er.

From the Amazon answers, sounds like you set an SSID and key (i.e. it’s technically a 2nd access point.) Nothing prevents you from setting these the same (so your devices will recognize either network), but as you point out, the relative “stickiness” of the client can be a problem.

One thing this article is lacking is a relative comparison of what 250watts from a tube motor or even 60watts from the induction wheel means relative to an elite cyclist’s “normal” power output.

Agreed. Something like the “parc ferme” that the FIA uses to isolate and inspect race cars for mechanical compliance. Engines are tagged and can’t be opened/tampered with, and between the race finish and inspection the vehicles are kept segregated so that they can’t be tampered with.

For my money, it was the Z3 Coupes and M-coupes with “non-extended” packages. A little less disco and more grown-up than the full blow extended M-package cars.

>Deathmatch was never really a part of doom.

I don’t ride, but I spend a lot of time with ADV riders and other like-minded people, and I can say that you’re not entirely wrong on some of your questions.

Correct. I pay the $2/month so I can store at original quality with automatic backups.

POOR IMPULSE CONTROL

Oh God, thank you.

I’m happy with my current TV, so I haven’t been following the latest trends - do any of these smart TVs let you pipe the audio out from the TV to a receiver? (Digitally)

Only if anyone actually found out. If they quietly sailed into international waters, popped the top, and sent a short message to the USN, I have faith it could be handled.

Yeah, I came to express a similar sentiment. I’ll add a Starbucks’ coffee box to the prize for the same evidence.

Make your life easy, and spend a little extra for a MIG setup. The shielding gas and solid wire (vs. flux cored wire) really is a LOT easier. The difference in machine cost is small, the the cost of consumables is negligibly different, but the quality of the weld (and the learning curve) will be VASTLY better.
