I feel The Ringer is starting to find its niche, though. The tech stuff is odd, but unique compared to tech review sites and pretentious tech philosophers, imho. If they can turn tech business into almost sports-like content (“Facebook won this week!” etc.), that bet will pay off nicely. Now if not, well, the site

AT&T is way overpaying for Time Warner (owner of HBO); content is in demand again for a few years. He’ll be all right.

I might be starting an argument here, but I’d argue his basketball knowledge has always been quite good. It’s the other sports that were a bit lacking, in my opinion. Personally, I felt there were two Simmons’, one writing during NBA season, one during off-season; that’s how different quality of writing could be.

I think he did a good job pivoting away from baseball a bit when he realized he wasn’t on the cutting edge of analytics anymore. But his NBA takes usually still worked on Grantland for me.

I hadn’t realized how much better Vine made sports until it closed. Besides Twitter (too easy) what other social media site has an underrated effect on sports for you?

Is there much left to the Celtics ceiling? I know, lots of picks, Stevens is god, etc., but I just don’t see where they’re going to find that superstar. Horford may indeed be as good as it gets.

Weiner is slang for penis, etc.

Really? oh no. Sigh :(

It’s sadly a fact that the victim has to score well on society’s scorecard to have her victimization recognized. But this goes back to even Rosa Parks, where she was chosen as better example of bus segregation than Claudette Colvin because Claudette was younger and more dark-skinned :(

^Good point about his career; some cheats just have great natural cover stories, unfortunately. I’m sure Jared was quite good at pretending his trips were for Subway business or what not. :(

A key to Adam Silver’s commissioner success is that he knows when it’s ok to suck up to the players and does so. Take, for example, how he included Issac Austin, the Baylor center, on draft night a few years ago. Cost him nothing, but brought massive goodwill from the players. The NFL just doesn’t do those little

I wish the older Cruz kid would look truly happy just once. I had perma-grouch face as a kid myself, but it’s just worrisome. /drive-by concerned Interneter

For what it’s worth, was he more angry or scared? I realize this sounds a bit like victim apologia, but I’m more inclined to be forgiving if the person saying crazy things was scared, not just angry. Shrug.

I mean, ngl, there’s a Made-For-TV movie right there. NSA expert comes back in disguise as gossip writer, picks the obviously fake name of Robert Finger, uses old hacking skills to dig up gossip...more has been done with less!

Ha! Excellent sense of humor

Now playing

In honor of the start of the NBA season, feel free to post the songs that most remind you of the NBA (whether explicitly or implicitly). I’m starting with a few obvious classics.

Yes, there’s definitely a lot of...forgiveness in the comment section.
