This all depends on the parts of PA you’re in. I live in Norristown, work closer to Philly, grew up northeast of Reading. Closer to city=more liberal. It’s disturbing. Where I grew up is right wing to the extreme, where I live is a complete mix, getting progressively more left to Philly.

Direct testimony of the victim IS evidence, as much as anything else. The requirement of “corroborating” evidence for a rape conviction was eliminated decades ago. You’ve been brainwashed by watching TV shows like CSI into thinking that if there’s no forensic evidence, it didn’t happen.

I’m not a lawyer and I don’t know what instructions were given to the jury, but I suspect they were probably told that they could only take the facts of this particular case into account and not any outside information they have about other assaults.

From my time doing Jury Duty (which I just remembered I have another session coming up at some point) a jury can be “deadlocked” with even just one juror disagreeing. You’re probably skeptical that they couldn’t all find him guilty, but it only takes one to blow the whole thing.

I’ve started using, “I can’t reason with stupid.” and walking away. But “nope” sounds pretty good.
