Carroll Shelby, Dan Gurney, Bob Bondurant from the Shelby Cobra team were fairly commonly known in the mid-60's when they raced in FIA GT-3 class. The top 40 single, "Hey Little Cobra" featured Gurney's car on the dust cover and I believe the team got press from non-car mags, like Playboy and some others.

I think the yellow has been around for a bit. IIRC, yellow is ceramic (not sure, but I think the color signifies some sort of upgrade) and red are the traditional "big brakes."
