For comparison’s sake, to set up the similar death of Ra’s Al Ghul in Batman Begins, Nolan gives us at least two scenes where Bruce rejects killing for vengeance (the scene where Rachel slaps him for bringing a gun to the courthouse; the scene where he refuses to execute the villager), plus multiple scenes that build

By far the stupidest thing about this movie — which has its fair share of stupid things — is Pa Kent’s bullshit self-sacrifice.

It’s a solid action movie. It’s arguably a decent comic book movie. It’s a fucking terrible Superman movie.

Is that worth a school bus to you?

THIS! This was the biggest problem I have with this movie. I am kinda ok with snapping Zod’s neck. Where would they keep him prisoner?

Still the best live-action iteration of Superman.

Still the best live-action iteration of Superman.

A lot has been written about how Superman’s character was completely mishandled in this movie. Not NEARLY enough has been said about how Pa Kent was completely mishandled.

Superman got his greatness from Krypton. He got his goodness from his homespun human parents from the middle of nowhere. I have no idea how “let

I love Henry Cavill, but sadly his Superman isn’t even in the top three of live action Supermen.

The list goes:

1) Tyler Hoechlin
2) Christopher Reeve
3) Brandon Routh in a better movie than Superman Returns
4) Dean Cain
5) Henry Cavill
6) George Reeves
7) Brandon Routh in the actual movie Superman Returns

Or if Superman hadn’t just been knocking down skyscrapers for the last 30 minutes. It’s like he suddenly realizes there’s people around. The scene is stupid in so many levels though, logistically and emotionally. Heat vision only shoots straight out? He can snap Zod’s neck? After all the stuff we just watched that

It would be like Uncle Ben telling Peter “With great powers...fuck everyone else!”

Considering that this Jon Kent seems so cavalier with child murder, I'd assumed that guy was buried in a a shallow grave somewhere out in Nevada.

My problem with killing Zod was that the movie didnt earn it. If through the fight Clark had tried other tactics, tried to steer the battle away from the city, if he was coming to the conclusion that this “sancticty of life” thing was slowly losing him the battle, if it had come down to This Is My Only Choice, and

So you’re okay with turning Shaft into a nebbish white accountant who cant even talk to women without tripping over his own tongue?

Except for that piece of Clark’s spaceship that he had analyzed. I guess he assumed that the people who studied this undiscovered element would never talk about it and would sit on this amazing discovery for the rest of their lives.

Go back and watch Glenn Ford’s “you are here for a reason” speech in the 1978 version and you’ll know exactly what’s wrong with this version.

Still the best live-action iteration of Superman.

It’s the context that makes it ridiculous.

The whole Jonathan Kent tornado thing almost made me get up and turn the film off. That was such a bad scene that showed us the people in charge did not have a clue what they were doing.

“It is fiction, the nature of the character has changed with every new writer that took on the character in the comic.”

You’ve actually never read a Superman comic, have you?

At best, Man of Steel is a sub-par non-cannon take on superman akin to Ultraman or Kingdom Come. Even taken as an alternate dimension asshole
