Probably has to do with the bug having its heavy engine in the rear, too.
The funniest thing about this video to me is that the idiot probably didn’t hear the Tesla as they are all electric car quiet and stuff. He just thought no one was coming and WHAM. Funny....
I drive by a 540 touring that looks just like that every day when I go to work. It’s parked in the same spot, always, and quite dirty, but I do thinkit gets used. That is a sweet car...
In F1 it’s easier to just identify them by their helmet...
Turbo with dimensional constraints, huh... Wouldn’t that mess around with Mercedes’ innovative split turbo concept?
Really great story, thanks for sharing with us. Hope someone reading this at least reaches out and gives Radar a ride in a nice 67 Charger. With a manual.
Did you see Petrolicious’ film today?
The curb and paint make it different from asphalt. I think more people would have said something if it was a deliberate cheating manouver but it simply wasn’t IMO. Particularly because in the case of that corner they all had been running wide there all week. Add a first lap mess into that and it is simply racing. It’s…
The thing is taking the wider line is not an advantage there, even if having the asphalt runoff is less of a disadvantage than if it were grass. Vettel lost time going wide. Theoretically he could have lost the position, so it’s within the rules.
Sound design for cars almost always sucks. i watched a movie the other day and a guy was driving a Tesla and they made it have engine noise...
I think they were saying others were doing it while getting an advantage.
I just watched again - Vettel takes a wider line than Hamilton, he’s at a disadvantage being off-track as he has to travel farther. Not to mention he was already P1. I see no grounds for a penalty there, there was no clear advantage. It’s completely different from Max cutting a corner to overtake Kimi.
I have to check but I think Vettel was already P1 when he went off - forced by Hamilton attempting to close the door, so he didn’t gain a place from that. It’s not the same thing, especially on the opening lap.
The whole issue is that the rulebook says you cannot gain advantage by going off track, and that is exactly what happened. Like I said, if Max had hit the brakes and let kimi finish his corner, he would also have taken evasive action. Kimi was in front and therefore could pick his line, not to mention having the right…
That’s all fine but when you gain a position out of track you need to give it back. It’s the rules.
If he hit the brake he’d also have avoided contact.
Were all four wheels off the track?
If you’re in front you get to pick your racing line...
I think the argument was “everyone was going off track throughout the race”, but I don’t know if they were cutting that corner specifically...
