This paragraph reminds me of the disgust we all felt back in the eighties when the US admitted that it hoped to keep WW3 contained within Europe.

Great article, just one small quibble, Neuromancer was published it 1984 and I'd say it was resonating with 80's societal decay right off the bat. I would argue that by the nineties cyberpunk had already become commodified.
