Watching earlier episodes of Stargate SG-1 are awkward, too. The USAF good guys have a sick and dying Apophis - the early big bad - in their custody, and they get word that the other baddies would very much like to torture him to death for kicks. Or die of course, yadda yadda. Uber Good Guy Gen. Hammond proudly

I only knew of STARCOM from the cartoon. You can get the DVD set from Amazon for $5.99.

Important clarification — she *didn’t* post bail. She signed a “signature bond,” which is basically a pinky swear to appear in court in lieu of actually paying bail like some common serf. No money changed hands. That $250,000 number they keep quoting is BS.

“Do you really think that beard is working for you?”

*Flaut* the rules, not flaunt. (This stream-of-consciousness recap was really, really hard to parse.)

There’s a documentary on PBS called The Last Days of Jesus that goes into the Roman political in-fighting that was going on at the time. Very interesting stuff.

Nine times out of ten, the problem is that the person doesn’t get that the whole platform is a scale, and they’ve set down random items on it. These also tend to be the same sort of people who wheel in a cart full of items.

Speaking from experience, it’s actually *really* difficult to proofread your own work. You’re so familiar with it that your brain fixes any errors before they can register on a conscious level. You have to trick your brain into thinking it’s new material. What works for me is to start at the end of the piece and go

Occam’s Razor. I assume it’s because the letter “e” is “ee” when spoken aloud.

Not a good sign when the very first lines are mistranslated. Should be “Once, the cosmos knew peace. But then *it* appeared twelve years ago.”

If there’s a pair like considerable/considerably, yeah, you’re almost certainly gonna see the writer opt to end it in -e. Invariably (see what I did there?) younger writers.

Interesting that “Tellus” was listed as the point of origin on the display. Calling Earth “Tellus” was a thing in the Lensman books. I don’t think I’ve ever seen it used anywhere else. Terra, sure, but not Tellus.

Plex’s transcoding issues are driving me nuts, too. From what I’ve read, it’s based on what the target device can handle, but it’s clearly either misidentifying the client or its list of supported formats is wrong. I wish they’d swallow their pride and allow a FORCE DIRECT PLAY option.

HD Homerun Prime, SiliconDust’s CableCard tuner for cable TV.

it’ll ruin both the comforter and possible the machine”

Because calling attention to it would be anti-Semitic, duh. /s
