Fellow Aeropress user/evangelist here. With Starbucks. their medium roast is the equivalent of a dark roast everywhere else, so to get a cuppa that doesn't "taste like burnt," I use their one of their blonde roasts.

Sonos gear no longer requires the $50 Bridge gizmo to work wirelessly, right? I remember that the Play:1 came bundled with one during last year's sales.

I was just thinking that my Nexus 7 would be good for this with its Bluetooth and GPS. It just needs a modified launcher with big, friendly buttons (and a mount). I didn't know it was even *possible* to do hosting and charging at the same time. Neat.

So many cool bits in that movie. The "bounce a sword off a guy's chest and casually snatch it out of the air on the rebound" move is the apotheosis of badassery.

I've been seeing a race to the bottom in the translation field, as well. They're even shocked — shocked — when I dare suggest that day-of or next-morning turnaround calls for double rate. You offer Walmart wages, you get Walmart quality, guys.

They're store security guards, not police. I'm not sure if that makes them more or less crazy.

Oy, I know that feeling. Even when you're out of the house, there's a nagging voice that's saying, "You should be working. What if a client emails me?" When I try to go to the gym regularly, that's the biggest factor that makes me stop going. "I could be spending this hour or two making money."

I agree with you there - I loathe crowds and eventually run out of mental juice when I'm around people and need peace and quiet to recharge. It's not a social anxiety thing, though. I have no trouble speaking in front of large crowds. I just don't like them. I've noticed that some people prefer to be around others

A good follow-up to this would be "How to go about dating when you have a social circle that's far, far smaller than most folks' as a result of your job." It takes a lot more effort to meet people, romantically or otherwise, when you don't even have coworkers to interact with daily. Lord knows I'm terrible at that...

Three days? *pfft* Amateur. I once went 10 days without setting foot outside during one particular stretch of freelancer hell. I just know I'm gonna end up starring in one of those "the neighbors started noticing a smell" stories.

Mmm... Ersatz meat extruded food-like product... Gaaahhh...

Not gibs in the traditional sense, but turning on the "realisticsabercombat" flag and slicing Stormtroopers into sushi with a lightsaber never got old in Jedi Knight: Outcast.

I wish I had seen the freaking thing soon enough to even try to get it, but it wasn't listed in the version of this list that I read through on io9.com this morning. I've said it before, but running this feature on multiple sites with almost-the-same-but-not-quite content makes it annoyingly easy to miss out on a

Same here, though I only have the Classic model. It's amazing how much more home cooking you do when you have solid tools to do it with.

Alton Brown's series of Good Eats cookbooks have a healthy dose of silliness (Food Wishes is kind of his goofy youtube counterpart - several of his recipes are now in my rotation).

Based on the top gif, one plane upgrade must be an oscillation overthruster.

Wow, that kinda looks like Totino's. Maybe that's their secret.

Cascade used to sell (emphases on "used to") a goop called Plastic Booster that was fantastic at destaining plastic containers. I've been looking for a replacement ever since.

What bugs the hell out of me about coffee gurus is that every last one of them defines "cup of coffee" differently. This chart uses the liquid measure, but you frequently see "For a standard 6oz cup of coffee..." — to which I call BS. Every cup I own holds 10oz when filled properly. Doing mental ratio conversions

Yeah, no kidding. The Aeropress (drinking a fresh cup right now) uses pressure to extract, so you use a much lower water temperature. Which you then have to balance against the type of roast you're using and how fine the grind is.
