When I was a kid, people in my parent’s generation were immediately suspicious of anything that came from the internet. “Don’t meet anyone from the internet in real life!” “You can’t believe that, it’s just on the internet!”

Little Caesars: Come see our empty insides before we do the same to you.
The point of the arena deal and that wad of taxpayer cash was to “revitalize” a moribund downtown. That it’s taken a single home game (and that might even be generous) for the new car smell to wear off should encapsulate pretty neatly the scam of publicly financed stadiums.

Don’t you fucking dare invoke MLK to defend Nazis.
One night when I was riding home to New York City’s Brooklyn borough on the C train, an older man started smiling,…
Respect is really not that essential when you’ve just come across your gf’s death. It may not fuck you up cos you’re razor sharp but the world doesn’t spin around you either you senseless douche.
Yes. It is. Because he was rather obviously fucked up himself. what good does it do you to get some extra pound of flesh out of this dead guy? I really don’t understand moralizing here. But you do you.
Not at all surprising. For two reasons. First, since she was buried in the backcountry odds are astronomically low that 911 could help. Second, the linked story sorta suggests he found her, presumably dead.
Hmm, ok....so I made my requisite snark comment, and there’s some snark coming, but this is an interesting write-up, as always Dom. So
I more meant using public money for things like schools, housing, better policing...things like that. Not so much commercial development.
80 Million Dollars could change that.
I didn’t say you were concerned for the neighbourhood but about it. As in being in it. Because of the crime, you see. Which, to me, seems like a good reason to use public money to try and improve the neighbourhood as opposed to build a AAA ballpark.
If you’re really that concerned about the neighbourhood the ballpark is in it seems like there’s a greater need for public money in that neighbourhood than in moving the ballpark away.
Or with that $80 million could they have possibly improved the ‘high-crime’ area of the city?
This “unity”, this corporate-mandated togetherness is not consensual and therefore doesn’t exist. It is a farce to suggest a resolution to the “controversy” be that one side stop doing the one thing that they believe in and the other side gain everything they want in the transaction. You can try to force obedience…
Haha I know right? I HATED Kaep as a player. Now I love the dude for doing what he thought was right.
Why is the NFL, and Jerry Jones specifically, keeping this issue alive? I don’t pretend for a second it is even remotely a moral stance. Hell I’d even respect them a little for it if it were. A little.
If the NFL crumbles from within because a 49er QB took a knee, I’ll be the smilingest motherfucker on the planet.
Whoa whoa. You’re telling me that white people in charge of young black men and also profit massively from these black men’s talents would change the rules and not say anything? And then use the revised rule as a way of punishing said black men for going against the wishes of their white employers? In America?
