I don’t think Musk and Hawking are necessarily fear-mongering. I think they’re being fairly restrained and reasonable. People aren’t screaming “The sky is falling!” They’re just advocating for a little common sense, just in case.

Nothing says that super intelligent creatures have to be greedy or ambitious. They may just as easily be sociopathic, vindictive, disinterested or altruistic. I think the point is just that we can’t predict all possible outcomes of a superintelligent AI.
