Last car I purchased I told them if they were going to put their brand on it they were going to pay me to advertise. They did not put their brand on it.

Did they own up? They were caught and said, “Oh you caught us cheating...ummm yea I guess we should fix that”. Owning up to a mistake is one thing. Deliberately designing a mode to pass emissions only when being tested is not an accident, it’s fraud.
I predict that dieselgate will be forgotten by everyone except auto enthusiasts in less than six months.
Diesel will never die. They’re not the only ones selling diesels in the US now. Chevy has it in the Cruze now even. Plus, their fist statement was that this is NOT in their newest diesels.
sorry if your slammed 98 civic was above my crappy Jetta.
yup- the remote control was obviously dead, too. magic robot arms and legs!
The late-80’s-era Cadillac “A/C cheat”. The EPA didn’t require OEMs to engage the A/C during tests, so GM calibrated the PCM to idle lean during with the climate control off, knowing that almost everyone would actually just set the climate control to “AUTO”. Emissions under normal operation were triple what they were…

It’s backwards
I’m baffled by a ton of these comments regarding that GM directly killed people and should pay more than VW because VW hasn’t directly killed anyone.
NOx kills in the long term due to direct health concerns when it reacts with things in the air.
1st: This is going to be bad for VW — and diesels in general. Here’s why: When the GM ignition switch shit storm hit the media, everyone, from the government, to the media, to those directly affected by the defective switch, have been frustrated by the lack of identification of a person or group directly responsible.…
GM did not “intend” to kill this people, and it was a “flaw” (I know, they knew, and they took way to long to fix this etc), the people driving the cars could get out of the situation in some cases, it is a much more complicated case to prove intent.
Apples and oranges. They’re different agencies, with different laws - NHTSA was capped to 35 million a day of noncompliance. EPA can charge VW for each non-compliant car it sold.
But since you are hung up on priorities, sexual offenders get less jail terms than low level drug offenders with minimum sentencing laws.…
1st gear: In during shitstorm.
2nd gear: Hoo boy.
3rd gear: Okay. Thought they we’re gonna get rid of the two tier system, though.
4th gear: Okay. How much does selling them here as Buick’s figure in?
5th gear: Meh. Fuck autonomous cars.
Neutral: I don’t know, but its gonna be fun to watch. And by fun, I mean it’ll be a…
I just hope this doesn’t tarnish diesel’s already “meh” appeal in the U.S once word gets out. It also makes me wonder if other automakers have done this in recent times, what few sell diesel here.
