Something else that surprises me is that even though the driver is fighting the autonomous system by providing his own steering input the vehicle computer continued to provide steering input, and managed to over-power the driver.

The driver providing input (especially contradictory input) should have immediately

What we need is more economy EV cars if the industry ever expects them to saturate the market. My candidate with be the first gen Honda Insight.

Modern engines and lots of gears. We have a XT4 with the 2.0T and a nine speed. You wouldn’t think its all that, but between the close spacing of the gears and a modern GDI engine making 250hp it scoots along with enough authority for a SUV. What really surprises me is just how much grunt and how little turbo lag it

Ignoring for a moment variable speed compressors the ambient temperature does have a direct correlation to the load on it. The purpose of the compressor is to pressurize the vaporized freon into a higher pressure/temperature that can then be cooled back down by the condenser into a high pressure liquid to be vaporized

Bit if an aside, but have you noticed that the people complaining about gas prices and promoting more oil production NEVER talk about reducing their own consumption?

Re: Damping

I think you’re vastly underestimating just how much energy AC uses. You’re not going to get much better out of any other vehicle doing the same drive cycle. Yes those numbers are abysmal, but it’s not the vehicle that’s the problem it’s the use case.

I should have elaborated more. I was operating under the assumption that a regular cab would be equipped with a longer bed; so the wheelbase would remain the same.

That’s an entirely different subject though. I’m just speaking to the feasibility of it. Assuming wheelbase remains the same there’s no design reason why the same battery could be used. As to whether the market demand is there to drive what differences remain... you’re spot on.

I’m right behind you most of the way, but why do you think the battery wouldn’t work on a regular cab? I would assume this uses the same flat packaged battery that the Hummer EV uses. So as long as the wheelbase doesn’t change there’s not much reason a regular cab isn’t feasible.

Some people pick the weirdest hill to die on. Like I can understand the pushback to vaccine mandates, but putting yourself in this sort of situation over a mask is just ridiculous.

I think it’s using the front suspension from a Ford M151. Looking through photos it seems the differentials used in those rigs also had a front/rear input/output shaft to coupling the rear axles together would have been fairly trivial.

Absolutely! I’ve autocrossed an old square body Chevy and a Malibu Maxx at one point. Both were riots in their own way. The truck would one-wheel burnout on a whim and the Malibu did some absolutely graceful drifts under trail braking.

Oh good, they’re both asshats!

Lambo for side swiping Audi and Audi for rear-ending Lambo in retaliation. Looks like both of them get to pony up for individual dip-shittery.

None of these nimrods understand that trackers such as RFID that can be used in these applications have a range in the low single digits of feet.

Correct. The actual effect at play here is tire deformation. Low tire pressure leads to more tie deformation that can increase rolling resistance. Higher tire pressure reduces rolling resistance therefore reducing engine load; especially when running on rollers.

That’s the irony: it’s a ‘02 Silverado 1500HD, not exactly large. It’s all of 3 inches wider than her car, but the length is substantially more. Since I do use it to pull a trailer that length is pretty nice though. I could find a 2500 with an extended cab and a 5' bed instead of a crew cab and a 6'6", but it honestly

I knew someone was going to say it. Here’s the fun part: It has broken down once because of anything manufacturing related (cam chain tensioner). The latest bout is because of a dealer mistake in forgetting to tighten a ground that handles the ignition coils. Now it’s making a third return because that mistake fouled

I like where your head is at, but at 6'4" and 250 lbs I think I’ll have to pass on a Miata.

Sorry, but it’s true. We actually have four vehicles in my household and at one point three were manuals and one was the automatic (guess which one my wife drove).
